FAQs

How does the sense of smell affect my eating?

Smells help the brain to decide whether we should ingest a food or not. A good smell entices us to approach the food and eat it; an unpleasant smell gives a warning to the brain that there may be danger and we should stop, pause and consider if we wish to eat this food. With Stink Yourself Slim, the mildly unpleasant odour causes you to pause, which allows time to break the unconscious habits your have developed around this type of eating.

How will the spray change my cravings?

The spray will deliver a mildly unpleasant odour that will be detected by the nasal receptors. These receptors will send a message to the brain indicating that it would be wise to stop and consider whether you want to ingest the food. Unpleasant smells will trigger programs in the brain that lead you away from the food. In this way it will act to dispel and extinguish those cravings driving you towards unhealthy foods.

Why is a bad smell better than smelling a pleasant smell to stop overeating?

Our ancestors needed a quick and sure fire way to make sure they did not ingest any food that might make them sick or worse, cause death. Therefore, the nasal system is much more sensitive to bad smells signally we should avoid a food or substance as these have much greater potential to harm. It would be a costly mistake to ingest something toxic or harmful (that will likely smell bad) compared to accidentally ingesting something that was good. This is why we are likely to respond more quickly to an unpleasant smell.

How much weight should I expect to lose?

As Stink Yourself Slim targets between meal snacking and emotional eating, your weight loss will be related to the amount of your daily calories you are currently ingesting with this type of eating. It is likely therefore to vary between individuals. Safe weight loss practices as recommended by the NHS suggest that within the context of three regular meals per day and daily physical exercise you should aim to lose about 5-10% of your starting weight by losing 0.5kg-1kg (1lb-2lb) a week. You should be able to lose this amount if you eat about 500 to 600 calories fewer a day than you need. An average man needs about 2,500 calories a day and an average woman about 2,000 calories to stay the same weight.

Can I train my brain with it to stop going to the cupboard?

This mildly unpleasant scent will be a trigger for your brain to stop going towards the cupboard. With repeated use and ideally using Stink Yourself Slim the same location (i.e.: your “danger cupboard”), your brain will learn very quickly to not approach this area. This will give you the chance to break the habit of between-meals snacking and comfort eating.
